Doomscrolling vs. Nature – Why We Need a Reset
Let's be real for a second: how many hours did you spend on TikTok or Instagram today? If the answer makes you cringe, you aren't alone. We live in an era where our digital lives often feel more demanding than our real ones. That's exactly why the Erasmus+ project "Digital Detox: Reconnect with Nature" is happening this November in Germany. It's not just about putting the phone down; it's about remembering what the world looks like when you aren't viewing it through a screen.
The Anxiety Trap
The organizers, Alle für einen e. V., noticed a pretty worrying trend: social media is messing with our heads. Research actually shows that a massive 85% of young people in Germany experience anxiety and low self-esteem linked to social media use. In places like Türkiye, young people are spending over five hours a day online, which leads to isolation and cyberbullying risks.
This project aims to hit the brakes on that behavior. The goal isn't to ban phones forever, but to help us spot when our online habits are becoming toxic and how to use critical thinking to manage them.
Touching Grass (Literally)
So, what's the alternative to the algorithm? Nature. From November 12th to the 20th, participants will be heading to Osterholz-Scharmbeck to swap their notifications for nature walks and outdoor meditation. The idea is that spending time in natural settings reduces stress and actually boosts happiness—a total contrast to the stress of maintaining a perfect online persona.
The schedule is packed with "non-digital" vibes. We're talking about art therapy using natural materials and reflective writing workshops where you process feelings with a pen and paper instead of a status update. It's a chance to clear your head and learn that it's okay to disconnect.
If you've been looking for a sign to log off and breathe some fresh air, this project is basically shouting it from the rooftops.
